Feature Request: See Test Plan name on Test Results screen

On the index.php?/cases/results/ screen, it'd be really useful for us to be able to see the name of the test plan that each result was generated from.

Cheers!

Request: Avoid needing to click "show all cases" to see the full list

When our suites have slightly more than 150 tests it can be very easy to miss the small number of extra tests that are automatically hidden and require "show all cases" to be clicked.

For now, I've increased tests-per-page from 150 to 250 but as our suites grow we will run into confusion again in the future.

It would help if the notification of hidden tests was larger and/or at the top of the page (or really fancy would be to dynamically load more tests if the user hits the bottom of the page smile ).

LoadConfiguration not updating existing session levels

I am reloading the configuration file at runtime and want to change the level of existing sessions.

If I load the configuration file before creating the sessions, the session level is set correctly to that in the file.

If I then subsequently reload the configuration file after the sessions are created, the level does not appear to read the newly set level in the file.

Other settings are read correctly like connections.

Thanks for the help

Milestone calendar view to show dates in the future?

$

Currently on Project overview, you can see the Milestone calendar, which shows days in the past, configurable by values of 14/30/etc.

How do I also see *upcoming* milestones on this dashboard? I want to see, "oh in 2 weeks we have a milestone coming up".

I'd like to specify the from and to dates that the dashboard shows. 'Show me 2 weeks in the past, 2 weeks in the future' or just setting the boundary dates from a date-picker.

Is it possible?

[Testrun Page] Ctrl + Left click no longer opens test case in new tab

As mentioned in the title.

In the Test run section when Ctrl + Left is performed on a test case link the browser navigates in the same tab. The previous behaviour was to open a new tab with the test case info.

Feature request: Dashboard -> highlighted running tests

Hi !

When I want a quick overview, I go to the dashboard in testrail.
Unfortunately, running tests are not highligthed.
Only the small number besides "runs" shows me actual ongoing tests.
-> If you have many projects, you have to look closer....

It would be great, if running tests were highlighted.

Thanks,

Philip

Feature Request: Negativ-Testplan

Hi !

So when you are working with many test plans towards your milestone, it is always good
to have a look on the report to check the coverage rate besides all test cases.

It´s important to know, did we work on every case?
For that situation, powerful reports show you the coverage rate.

It would be a great feature, if I can create an automated selected testplan.
A "negativ" testplan within all the testcases that I didn´t cover with my tests reagarding the current milestone.

If I get this rigtht, at that moment it´s only possible to rerun a testplan, and in that specific testplan I can use filter actions (select tests: select all/passed/blocked/untested) regarding the chosen testplan.

That would be a great feature,
a help to save time

Thanks
Philip

Feature Request: Rerun Test Plan (configurations wide)

Hi !

At that moment it´s possible to rerun a testplan, and in that specific testplan I can use filter actions ( e.g. "untested") regarding the chosen testplan. When I work here with configurations (e.g. WIN XP/WIN 7/ WIN 8.1), I get only "untested" testcases which were not tested in ALL configurations at the same time. So for example I tested testcase 1 under WIN XP and WIN 7. When I proceed a rerun of that testplan with all untested testcases, I get for all systems (configurations) once again testcase 1, because it isn´t marked as "tested" under WIN 8.1.

It would be a great feature, if the rerun don´t  show me
testcase 1 for WIN XP and WIN 7, but for WIN 8.1 (regarding the situation above).

Thanks,
Philip

Suggestion: Add an Expand / Collapse All button to the section tree

It would be great if you could add an Expand / Collapse button to the section tree.

This has never bothered me too much before, but now that we are forced to use compact mode (we can't seem to just load all cases with the override pagination link anymore) this would make our lives easier.

[Automation] How to pass user credentials to the test executor

$

Hello!

I would like to trigger the execution of the selected test cases. The documentation is quite clear about this. But I would like the trigger to start an executable jar (list of testcases will be passed as command line argument). This jar will execute the tests and this java applicaton is supposed to send back the results via Testrail API.
Here comes the problematic part. The test executor (the java app) should know the credentials of the user who triggered the execution. How could I pass the logged in user's credentials? Or could I use some session Id in report API calls?

Shall I somehow request for username and password in UI script and pass this to trigger.php and the credentials will be passed to the Java application? This would not be a nice solution as the user is already logged in, so I would not like to display another authentication form before test run triggering.
Is there any other way to solve this?

Thanks,
Norbert

eMail to all users ?

Is there a way to send a message to registered users on our TestRail installation ?
We would like to inform all users about an upcoming downtime for the 4.0 upgrade.

Another option to me would be to export all users (to excel) and then use this export with outlook etc.

Any chance to do that ?

UIScripts not working since 4.0 upgrade

Hi,

I have several UI Scripts that are not working anymore since the upgrade to 4.0.
It's nice to get the warning message "all scripts deactivited, please reviewm them", BUT review against what ?
Is there any documentration on what exactly changed ?

For example i used the "hide elapsed field" script on the test result dialog out of this forum. I can still activate it, but it's not working? I don't get an error message or anything - it's just not working.
Same with the "hide version" script on the test result dialog.

Cannot find Configurations

Hi,

I just signed up for a new TestRail trial account and now wanted to set up a project. But I cannot find the configurations (different operating systems for example) as shown in this video http://www.gurock.com/testrail/videos/t … gurations/ anywhere.
Also there is nothing about "Test Suites" in the menu. I'm logged in as the single user that was created when signing up. I suppose this user should have all the "admin" rights for the new project?

Thanks,
Klemens

separate test steps question on passing results

http://docs.gurock.com/testrail-faq/config-steps

I setup my project to use multiple test steps.  My guess is we will never have more than about 40 - 50% of our test cases with multiple steps.  My question is even when we have just one test step it seems in the result I need to pass both the step and the test case.

In the case of a test step fail it defaults the test case to fail but if all test steps pass the case is not set or in reverse for a single test step test case if I pass the test case can my step also pass?

This just means for half of our (what will be 1000's) of test cases I need an extra click to pass the step and the case.  For multiple step cases I think it behaves as I would expect

How do you use the Type field

$

Hello,

I am just looking for some discussion on how others use and define their Type field when creating test cases.

For example, what type do you use when creating test cases based on documentation vs bugs/issues? Regression and Functionality seem to be the main types, do you use any others or custom ones? Or maybe that is just an issue that I have that I want to fit everything in to one of those two categories, so some information on how you define what type a test case is would be helpful.

Right now for regression I have anything that I would want to test after testing the bugs/issues to verify that the system as a whole works. As stated pretty much anything that based on a bug falls in to this category for me though.

For functionality, anything that isnt regression falls in to this for me, anything created based on a bug or issue mostly falls in to this.

One other note too, if narrowing the scope on what is defined as a regression test case, do you set up your sections/test suites differently to better define what you want to run for regression when not over-using the regression type label or am I over thinking that a bit?

Thank you for any feedback.

Using Milestones in agile/scrum

$

Does anyone here have any suggestions on how to use the milestone feature with an agile/scrum environment? We go through version numbers like water, so most version only get one test run completed before the next version is released, causing me to close a milestone and move to the next. Is this fine and does it produce useful data once more is collected (have only been using test rail a very short time) or should milestones be some other measurement in this scenario other than individual version numbers that close every two weeks?

(Also just to note, we dont have some planned future major release we are working towards, an example of our versions are 2.3.0.14, 2.3.0.15 etc. and if 2.3.0.16 works well and we want to release that to the customer then that is the version they get, not 2.3.1 or something arbitrary signaling an external release.)

Feature Request: Print only current filter

$

If I try to print from the Test Suite view after I have applied a filter to that view, the print preview shows ignores the filter and indicates that the print would contain all test cases (I am only assuming that it would actually print all, not willing to test that).

Printing should either honour the current filter on the view or allow for the application of a separate filter.

Feature Request:Provide ability to move tests between any 2 containers

When using a project in multiple suite mode, moving/copying test cases is possible via drag/drop.  You can drag/drop (copy/move/paste) between suites because you can see multiple suites in a single view.

However, when using the new baseline approach you can no longer copy/move/paste between suites as you can only view one suite on a page at a time.  I can understand that with baseline support some customers may want to restrict moving/copying between baselines but there are use cases for it.

The strategy we are using with baselining is to create test cases for new features in our Master, baseline Master after release, then delete all feature test cases from Master not deemed to be regression.  It will hopefully be very rare but there may be situations in which we determine that an old test case from a baseline should now be promoted to regression (back to Master).  At the moment we are assuming that this would be so rare that we would just re-create the test.  Being able to copy from the baseline would be useful.

Another use case would be for being able to copy/move/paste between projects.  This would enable us to use a separate project as a sandpit for agreeing on test cases before they are moved into Master on our main project.

I would hope that this could be implemented as a select dialogue launched from a Copy/Move button next to the Add Case button.  The dialogue would allow me to select test cases from other suites or projects then provide me with two buttons - Copy and Move.
